Funnier in Spanish

“Believe it or not, I’m actually funnier in Spanish.”
That’s something I told my manager recently.

I’ve noticed that in 1-on-1 meetings with other native Spanish speakers, we often end up switching to Spanish without planning it. And when we do, the conversation changes. It gets looser. More candid. A little less polished, sometimes a little profane in good spirits, but more open and real.

We still jump into English for business terms, because some things just work better that way. But the connection happens in Spanish. Different versions of ourselves show up. More relaxed. More expressive. More human.

It’s a reminder that language isn’t just about getting a point across. It shapes how we relate to each other and how comfortable we feel being ourselves.
